Here's How Avis Budget (CAR) Will Benefit From Brightline Deal
Read MoreHide Full Article
Avis Budget Group, Inc. (CAR - Free Report) announced that it has entered into a mobility partnership with Brightline — America’s only private passenger rail service.
About the Deal
Under the partnership, Avis Budget will allow Brightline passengers and those living or working near Brightline’s three current stations — Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach — to rent Avis rental cars and Zipcar vehicles through Brightline's mobile app and website.
Avis vehicles can also be reserved at Brightline's three stations directly through the Avis and Zipcar mobile apps, and on Avis.com and Zipcar.com. Notably, all these Brightline stations are temporarily accommodating Avis facilities that will move to permanent locations near each station by the end of 2018. Zipcar vehicles are also available at these stations. They are parked inside the Brightline garages near each station.
Partnership: A Key Catalyst
The latest move, which is allowing Avis Budget to expand in to Florida, is part of the company’s expansion strategy. It should benefit the Americas segment, which comprises all the company’s operations in North America, South America and the Caribbean.
Recently, Avis Budget expanded its partnership with Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) to reward the latter’s customers who rent on Avis Car.
Zipcar partnered with Volkswagen to add 325 electric Golf to its London offering. It also partnered with the City of Columbus in order to be available to businesses, visitors and a local resident.
Avis Budget’s ongoing partnership with Alphabet’s (GOOGL - Free Report) Waymo (to provide fleet management services to Waymo’s self-driving vehicles in Phoenix) has now expanded to other areas as well. It also partnered with Lyft to add thousands of vehicles to the Lyft Express Drive program across North America.
We believe that such moves will give the company a leg up on competitors such as Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ - Free Report) .
