Fund Description
The fund was incepted in January 1986 and is managed by Van Kampen Asset Management. The objective of the fund is to seek investors with as high a level of interest income exempt from federal income tax as is consistent with the investment policies of the fund. The fund invests primarily in medium and lower-grade municipal securities. The fund generally invests at least 75% of its net assets in: municipal securities rated at the time of purchase by Standard & Poors as BBB through CC (inclusive) for bonds or SP-2 or lower for notes, or by Moody's Investors Service as Baa through Ca (inclusive) for bonds or MIG3 or VMIG3 or lower for notes; and unrated municipal securities judged by the fund's investment adviser to be of comparable quality at the time of purchase. The fund offers dividends monthly and capital gains annually.
