Fund Description
The fund was incepted in February 1988 and is managed by Capital Research and Management Company. The objective of this fund is to seek current income and preservation of capital through a bond portfolio with an average effective maturity. The fund invests in corporate bonds, U.S. government bonds or notes, GNMA certificates and other mortgage-related securities, as well as cash. The fund invests substantially all of its assets (at least 80%) in bonds. A team of three portfolio counselors manages the fund. They are Thomas H. Hogh, John W. Ressner and John H. Smet. The fund offers dividends monthly. The fund distributes capital gains, if any, in December.
