Fund Description
The fund was incepted in May 1951 and is managed by Dreyfus Corporation. The fund seeks to provide long-term capital growth consistent with the preservation of capital. Current income is a secondary goal. The fund invests in common stocks issued primarily by U.S. companies. The fund may also invest up to 20% of its assets in foreign securities. The fund uses computer models to measure select portfolio characteristics in relation to various securities indexes or benchmarks, primarily the Standard & Poor' s 500 Index. The fund sells a security when it becomes fully valued, loses favor in the current market or economic environment, or experiences deteriorating fundamentals. Dividends are distributed quarterly. Capital gains are distributed once in a year.
