Fund Description

The fund invests at least 80% of net assets, including borrowings for investment purposes, in common and preferred stocks of companies located in Japan. A company or other issuer is considered located in Japan if it has substantial ties to Japan; Matthews has latitude in applying criteria that may include organization under Japanese law, at least 50% of revenues/profits or assets in Japan, primary trading markets in Japan, headquarters in Japan, or Japanese government affiliation. It may also invest in depositary receipts. It targets companies with sustainable growth potential based on fundamental characteristics and may invest across any market cap and sector, and may use affiliated or unaffiliated ETFs for cash equitization.
