The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets and borrowings in municipal bonds that offer interest exempt from regular federal personal income tax. These include obligations from U.S. states, subdivisions, authorities, and U.S. territories. It can invest in securities generating income subject to the alternative minimum tax. As a long-term bond fund, it generally maintains a portfolio with a weighted average maturity exceeding 10 years and focuses on lower-quality long-term municipal bonds. Investments may include up to 15% in inverse floaters for leveraged exposure and up to 10% in defaulted bonds.
