Fund Description
The fund was incepted in August 1979 and is managed by Dreyfus Corporation. The fund seeks high current income consistent with what is believed to be prudent risk of capital. The fund invests at least 65% of total assets in various types of U.S. government and investment grade corporate debt obligations (or their unrated equivalent as determined by Dreyfus). The fund also invests at least 65% of total assets in debt obligations having remaining maturities of 10 years or less. The fund may also invest up to 35% of total assets in obligations rated below investment grade or comparable unrated securities, 25% of total assets in convertible debt obligations and preferred stocks, 25% of total assets in asset-backed securities, including mortgage-backed securities and 20% of total assets in foreign securities. Dividends are distributed monthly. Capital gains are distributed once in a year.
