Fund Description

The fund was incepted in July 2000 and is managed by Deutsche Investment Management Americas Inc. The fund seeks to provide long-term capital growth while actively seeking to reduce downside risk as compared with other small company stock funds. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in common stocks of small US companies with the potential for above-average long-term capital growth. In addition, the fund does not invest in securities issued by tobacco producing companies. The fund's advisors use a proprietary quantitative investment software to select small company stocks that have above average capital appreciation prospects. Investments are screened based on value characteristics including low price to earnings ratios and low price to book ratios, creating a portfolio of small company stocks diversified across many sectors and industries. The fund distributes dividends and capital gains annually.
