Fund Description
Vanguard Tax-Managed International Fund was incepted in August 1999 and is managed by The Vanguard Group. The objective of this fund is to seek a tax-efficient total return consisting largely of long-term growth of capital, with only nominal current income. The fund invests in stocks that are included in the Morgan Stanley Capital International Europe, Australasia, Far East (EAFE) Index, an unmanaged benchmark of about 1,000 stocks of companies based outside the United States. The fund uses statistical methods to 'sample' the index, aiming to closely track its investment performance. To minimize capital gains distributions, the fund uses a variety of trading techniques. For example, it may sell stocks that have declined in price to realize losses that can be used to offset capital gains on other stocks. Also, when the fund sells stocks, it selects the shares with the highest cost basis. The fund distributes dividends and capital gains in December.
