Stocks End Week Mixed, But Within Striking Distance Of All-Time Highs
Image: Bigstock
Stocks closed mixed on Friday with the Dow, Nasdaq, and small-cap Russell 2000 in the green, while the S&P was slightly in the red. The Dow, however, was the only index up for the week.
But they all closed within 0.50% to 2.25% of their all-time highs.
The push for more stimulus continues. And with the mid-March deadline fast approaching (extended federal unemployment benefits will begin to expire on March 14th), that leaves just 3 weeks left with no time to waste.
Former Fed Chair, and new Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, backed calls for a "big package," saying that "the benefits will far outweigh the costs in the longer run."
Earnings season continues on as well. And that's great news since this earnings season has been excellent. We have another 1,328 companies reporting this week, and another 472 next week.
And we'll have our regular stream of economic reports as well, which, by the way, have largely been coming in better than expected.
These are historic times for both the economy and the market.
So make sure you're taking full advantage of it.
See you tomorrow,
Kevin Matras
Executive Vice President, Zacks Investment Research
