Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • Upstart expands its Commonwealth Credit Union partnership to include HELOCs and indirect auto lending.
  • Commonwealth aims to serve more borrowing needs, diversify lending and deepen prime-borrower relationships.
  • Secured originations reached $589 million in Q2 2026, up 218% year over year and 45% sequentially.

Upstart (UPST - Free Report) has expanded its partnership with Commonwealth Credit Union to include home equity lines of credit (HELOCs) and indirect auto lending. The Kentucky-headquartered credit union serves more than 140,000 members, giving Upstart another opportunity to extend its AI-powered lending marketplace across secured credit products.

The expansion builds on a relationship that began in 2022 with personal lending. Commonwealth noted that the move will help it serve members across more borrowing needs, diversify its consumer lending portfolio and deepen relationships with prime borrowers.

The timing is notable because Upstart’s secured business is already scaling quickly. In the second quarter of 2026, secured originations reached $589 million, rising 218% year over year and 45% sequentially. Auto originations grew about fourfold year over year, while home originations roughly doubled.

Upstart’s broader business also showed stronger momentum in the second quarter of 2026. Total originations were $4.2 billion, up 50% year over year, while revenues increased 42% to $365 million. The company reported $16.5 million in net income and $76.9 million in adjusted EBITDA.

Conclusion

For Upstart, the Commonwealth expansion supports its push beyond unsecured personal loans by deepening an existing credit-union relationship with additional secured products. With more than 100 banks and credit unions already using UPST’s marketplace, broader adoption of HELOC and auto lending across partners could help diversify Upstart’s originations mix and underpin continued growth in its secured-lending segment.
