QS Accelerates Solid-State Battery Production

QuantumScape advanced its manufacturing strategy through the Eagle Line pilot production facility, inaugurated in February 2026. The facility is producing increased volumes of QSE-5 solid-state battery cells, supporting customer sampling and commercialization activities.

The company announced a partnership with Germany-based Muehlbauer Group to provide cell assembly equipment for a planned 100-megawatt-hour production line. Production is targeted to begin in 2028, primarily serving AI data centers, aerospace and defense applications.

Management expects equipment costs for QuantumScape to remain below $100 million and is exploring nondilutive funding from customers, government programs and ecosystem partners. The company continues to pursue gigawatt-hour-scale production through partnerships with Murata, Corning and Muehlbauer.

QuantumScape Expands AI Data Center Opportunities

QuantumScape launched its QS PowerBlock energy storage reference design on Oct. 8, targeting AI data center applications. The modular system uses QSE-5 cells to deliver high power density, extended runtime and improved thermal stability for in-rack energy storage.

Testing demonstrated four times the power density and five times the runtime of the Open Compute Project reference specification. The company's solid-state batteries also demonstrated thermal stability above 300 degrees Celsius, compared with approximately 180 degrees Celsius for conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Management is working with technology partners to integrate the PowerBlock with rack-level power electronics and battery management systems for deployment in data center environments.

QS Strengthens Automotive Commercialization Efforts

QuantumScape recorded its first customer billings from Honda during the quarter, following the development agreement announced in June. The collaboration focuses on integrating the company's solid-state battery platform into Honda's technology roadmap.

QS also signed an agreement with another global mobility manufacturer. Beyond Honda and Volkswagen PowerCo, its active customer engagements include two additional top-10 automotive original equipment manufacturers.

The company is updating its collaboration framework with PowerCo, shifting toward milestone-based payments and extending potential applications beyond automotive batteries to data centers and robotics. Management plans to unveil additional details regarding its next-generation technology platform at its Solid-State Battery Symposium on Nov. 11 in Kyoto, Japan.

QuantumScape Targets Defense and Aerospace Markets

The company's advanced solutions business, QSAS, continued expanding its presence across defense, aerospace, telecommunications, medical devices and consumer electronics. Management estimates that the total addressable market for these applications could reach $75 billion by 2030.
