Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • AEIS raises its 2026 revenue growth outlook to 40%, with 2027 growth potentially approaching 30%.
  • Semiconductor revenues jump 64% as leading-edge wafer investments and new technology adoption fuel demand.
  • AI data center sales rise 49%, while manufacturing expansion targets over $5B in annual capacity by 2028.

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (AEIS - Free Report) , in the third-quarter 2026 earnings call, highlighted the raise of its 2026 revenue growth outlook following a record third quarter, supported by accelerating semiconductor demand, expanding AI data center programs and improved manufacturing execution.

Management emphasized stronger growth expectations for 2027, new product-driven market share opportunities and expanding production capacity, while acknowledging persistent component shortages.

Revenues of $696.4 million beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $646.40 million in the third quarter. Adjusted EPS of $3.65 surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.06.

AEIS Raises Growth Outlook as Demand Accelerates

President and CEO Steve Kelley said customer demand continues strengthening across the company's major markets. Management raised its 2026 revenue growth outlook to approximately 40%, compared with the previous low-to-mid-30% target.

Fourth-quarter revenue guidance stands at $735 million, plus or minus $25 million, with non-GAAP earnings projected at $3.90 per share, plus or minus 30 cents.

During the call, executive vice president and CFO Paul Oldham indicated that 2027 revenue growth could approach 30%, compared with the company's earlier expectation of more than 20%. However, supply constraints remain a consideration.

Advanced Energy Sees Sustained Semiconductor Strength

Semiconductor revenues reached $322.2 million, increasing 64% year over year. Kelley attributed the expansion to leading-edge wafer investments, increasing etch and deposition intensity, and improved execution.

Management expects new products to contribute more than 10% of semiconductor revenues in 2027. Recent design wins involving eVerest, eVoS and NavX technologies are expected to support advanced-node production ramps.

During a Susquehanna Financial Group analyst's questions about wafer fabrication equipment spending, Kelley said AEIS expects to grow at least as fast as the equipment market in 2027. Kelley also highlighted longer-term opportunities to outperform through additional technology adoption.

AEIS Expands Its AI Data Center Opportunities

Data Center Computing revenues increased 49% year over year to $256.2 million, reflecting stronger hyperscale demand and initial contributions from new programs.

Kelley identified two significant hyperscale customers and described increasing opportunities among enterprise, networking and neocloud customers. During questioning from Cantor Fitzgerald, Kelley indicated that these second-wave customers could eventually generate more than $300 million annually by 2029.

Management also highlighted modular 800-volt power distribution technology and liquid-cooled solutions. Kelley explained that the new distribution board offers 98% efficiency and power density of 350 watts per cubic inch, supporting customers transitioning toward higher-voltage architectures.

Advanced Energy Scales Manufacturing Capacity

Kelley emphasized the strategic importance of the company's Thailand manufacturing facility, which has begun generating revenues. Two data center customers have qualified production there, with two major semiconductor customers expected to follow within several months.

The company is also expanding output across Malaysia, Mexico and the Philippines. Management targets more than $5 billion in annual revenue-generating capacity by the end of 2028.

Responding to a Needham analyst, Kelley acknowledged shortages involving integrated circuits, printed circuit boards and specialty ceramics. Strategic inventory and flexible production scheduling have helped mitigate disruptions, although management incorporated continuing constraints into its outlook.

AEIS Targets Further Margin Expansion

Third-quarter non-GAAP gross margin reached 42.1%, while non-GAAP operating margin improved to 24.4%. Oldham projected fourth-quarter gross margin between 42% and 42.5%, supported by manufacturing efficiencies and higher production volumes.

During questioning from Citigroup, Oldham reaffirmed expectations for gross margin to reach 43% exiting 2027, with potential for earlier achievement depending on volume. Management also expects continued investment in research and development to support future product launches.

Advanced Energy Maintains Its Expansion Focus

Management's overall message centered on translating sustained demand into higher output, improved profitability and broader customer participation. Kelley emphasized execution, technology differentiation and manufacturing scale as priorities.

The company also remains open to strategic acquisitions while maintaining investments in capacity and product development. Supply availability and engineering resources remain important constraints as customer programs expand.
