Columbus, OH-based American Electric Power Company, Inc. is a public utility holding company, which, through directly and indirectly owned subsidiaries, generates, transmits and distributes electricity, natural gas and other commodities. The company was incorporated in 1906. It is one of the largest integrated utilities in the United States, serving more than 5.5 million customers in 11 states. It has roughly 24,400 MW of generating capacity, of which almost 49.6% are coal-fired as of Dec. 31 and nearly 40,000 miles of electricity transmission system network.
