The Style Scores are a complementary set of indicators to use alongside the Zacks Rank. It allows the user to better focus on the stocks that are the best fit for his or her personal trading style.
The scores are based on the trading styles of Value, Growth, and Momentum. There's also a VGM Score ('V' for Value, 'G' for Growth and 'M' for Momentum), which combines the weighted average of the individual style scores into one score.
Value Score | A |
---|---|
Growth Score | A |
Momentum Score | A |
VGM Score | A |
Within each Score, stocks are graded into five groups: A, B, C, D and F. As you might remember from your school days, an A, is better than a B; a B is better than a C; a C is better than a D; and a D is better than an F.
As an investor, you want to buy stocks with the highest probability of success. That means you want to buy stocks with a Zacks Rank #1 or #2, Strong Buy or Buy, which also has a Score of an A or a B in your personal trading style.

The Zacks Industry Rank assigns a rating to each of the 265 X (Expanded) Industries based on their average Zacks Rank.
An industry with a larger percentage of Zacks Rank #1's and #2's will have a better average Zacks Rank than one with a larger percentage of Zacks Rank #4's and #5's.
The industry with the best average Zacks Rank would be considered the top industry (1 out of 265), which would place it in the top 1% of Zacks Ranked Industries. The industry with the worst average Zacks Rank (265 out of 265) would place in the bottom 1%.

Company Summary
Ovintiv Inc. is an independent energy producer, which explores and churns out oil and natural gas from diverse assets located in the United States and Canada. Previously known as Encana, the company rebranded and shifted its corporate domicile from Calgary, Canada to Denver, U.S.
In February 2019, Ovintiv acquired Newfield Exploration for around $6 billion. Thanks to this buyout, Ovintiv has become one of the larger upstream players in the North American E&P landscape.
A few years ago, natural gas accounted for around 95% of Ovintiv’s output. However, the company successfully repositioned its asset base and transitioned to the more profitable crude over a couple of years. For full-year 2020, Ovintiv’s production averaged 543,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/d), of which more than 50% were liquids.
A significant portion of the company’s output (84% to be precise) comes from three core unconventional positions in North America — Montney in British Columbia and Alberta, Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma and the Permian Basin in New Mexico. Ovintiv’s multi-basin premium portfolio also include acreage in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale and the Eagle Ford in Texas.
As of year-end 2020, Ovintiv’s total estimated proved reserves were 1,992.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE) — 56% proved developed — of which 60% were liquids and 40% were natural gas reserves.
Ovintiv generated revenues of $6.1 billion from its operations last year, down 9.5% year over year. The company — focused on growth through a combination of acquisitions and active drilling — spent around $1.7 billion on capital expenditures in 2020. As a result of the coronavirus-fueled weak operating environment, Ovintiv’s cash outlays as capital expenditure declined sharply from $2.6 billion in the previous year year.
The company has consistently posted some of the strongest operational and financial results among the independent oil and gas producers. As a proof of this, Ovintiv’s well costs and capital efficiency have improved 20% since 2019. Meanwhile, the company is paying a quarterly dividend of 9.375 cents per share.
