The company offers a wide spectrum of specialized, complementary services and equipment for exploration and production of oil and natural gas. Approximately 99% of ProPetro's total revenues come from the Permian Basin.
The company reports in a single business segment:
Completion Services: ProPetro, through this division, provides hydraulic fracturing, cementing and acidizing functions. The business accounted for 100% of the company's total revenues in 2023.
Hydraulic fracturing is the largest service in this segment. It is a method used to extract oil and natural gas by blasting underground rock formations with a mixture of water, sand and chemicals. As of year-end 2021, ProPetro's fleet consisted of gas blending equipment, conventional hydraulic fracturing units and DuraStim (electric fleet technology) hydraulic fracturing equipment with a total capacity of 1,423,000 horsepower.
On top of its core hydraulic fracturing operations, the company offers cementing services (used to secure the integrity of the oil and gas wells) and acidizing (the pumping of acid and other fluids used to remove drilling and completion damage around the wellbore formation).
This segment also consist of other services like coiled tubing (to improve the flow of oil or natural gas) and flowback services (the process of allowing fluids to flow from the well).
The Permian Basin
A sedimentary basin lying underneath the western part of Texas and the south-eastern part of New Mexico, the Permian Basin Shale covers roughly 86,000 square miles. Experts say that it's cheaper to drill and complete oil wells in the Permian Basin, with attractive well-returns. According to business information provider IHS Markit, the Permian play is estimated to hold a staggering 60 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil.
