Fund Description

Incepted in June 1977, this fund is managed by Deutsche Investment Management Americas Inc. The fund seeks a high current return. The fund invests mainly in bonds issued by US and foreign corporations and governments. The credit quality of the fund's investments may vary. The fund may invest up to 100% of total assets in either investment-grade bonds or in junk bonds, which are those below the fourth credit grade (i.e., grade BB/Ba and below). Compared to investment-grade bonds, junk bonds may pay higher yields and have higher volatility and higher risk of default on payments of interest or principal. The fund may invest up to 50% of total assets in foreign bonds. The fund may also invest in emerging markets securities and dividend paying common stocks. The managers may shift the proportions of the fund's holdings, favoring different types of securities at different times, while still maintaining variety in terms of the companies and industries represented. The managers may adjust the duration (a measure of sensitivity to interest rates) of the fund's portfolio, depending on their outlook for interest rates. The fund distributes dividends monthly and capital gains annually.
