Fund Description

Incepted in January 1985, the fund is managed by Mellon Fund Advisers. The fund seeks total investment returns (consisting of capital appreciation and income) that surpass those of the Standard & Poor's SmallCap 600 Index (S&P SmallCap 600). To pursue its goal, the fund normally invests at least 80% of its assets in stocks of small-capitalization companies. The fund may purchase securities of companies in initial public offerings (IPOs) or shortly thereafter. Consistency of returns compared to the S&P SmallCap 600 is a primary goal of the investment process. The fund distributes dividends and capital gains annually.
