Evergy’s Transmission Company, LLC (Evergy Transmission Company) owns 13.5% of Transource Energy, LLC (Transource). The remaining 86.5% is owned by AEP Transmission Holding Company, LLC, a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company, Inc.
Evergy’s Missouri and Kansas businesses continue to operate on the fully integrated and regulated retail utility model. Due to the regulated nature of the operation, the Evergy Companies do not compete with others to supply and deliver electricity in their franchised service territories in exchange for the agreement to have their terms of service regulated by state regulatory bodies.
The company owns, operates and maintains approximately 10,200 circuit miles of transmission lines, 44,800 circuit miles of overhead distribution lines and 16,000 circuit miles of underground distribution lines, respectively, in Missouri and Kansas.
For 2024, the company expects coal to produce 38% of its electricity, while wind, natural gas & oil and uranium to generate 29%, 26% and 7%, respectively.
As the utility industry is evolving and technology is improving, the company is open to adoption of new technologies, as well as providing customers with better options to manage their energy use. Customer class-wise, Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Wholesale, Transmission and Other contributed 37%, 33%, 12%, 7%, 7% and 4%, respectively, to total revenues in 2023.
