It offers services in Brazil to retail customers through the branch network of Itau Unibanco S. A., and to wholesale customers through Banco Itau BBA S.A. Outside Brazil, Itau Unibanco provides its services through overseas branches including New York, Grand Cayman and Tokyo and through subsidiaries primarily including Chile, Uruguay, Europe. The company has three reporting segments:
The Retail Banking segment offers a wide range of banking products and services, including personal loans, mortgage loans, payroll loans, credit cards, acquiring services, vehicle financing, insurance, pension plan and premium bond products, to retail customers, current account and non-current account holders, individuals and legal entities, and high-income clients (Itaú Uniclass and Personnalité).
The Wholesale Banking segment consists of the activities of the Latin American units and Itaú BBA, the unit engaged in commercial operations with large companies and investment banking services. It also offers products and services to middle-market companies and high-net-worth clients (Private Banking).
Activities with the Market + Corporation segment reflect the results of the capital surplus, excess subordinated debt and the net balance of tax credits and debits. These also include financial margin on market trading, treasury operating costs, and equity in earnings of companies not included in either of the other segments.
In November 2023, Itau Unibanco sold all its shares held in Banco Itaú Argentina S.A to Banco Macro S.A. for around R$253 million, resulting in a negative impact of R$1.2 billion on its third-quarter 2023 results. In April 2022, Itau Unibanco acquired 11.4% equity interest in XP Inc. for R$8 billion. In October 2017, Itau Unibanco completely purchased the consumer business in Brazil from Citigroup.
