It is also a leading producer of multi-family loans in New York City, with emphasis on non-luxury residential apartment buildings with rent-regulated units that feature below-market rents. New York Community also originates Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loans (primarily in New York City and Long Island) and, to a much lesser extent, Acquisition, Development and Construction (ADC) loans, and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans. C&I loans consist of specialty finance loans and leases, and other C&I loans that are typically made to small and mid-size business in Metro New York.
A series of acquisitions has resulted in the company’s growth. It operates 436 branches through nine local divisions. These are Queens County Savings Bank, Roslyn Savings Bank, Richmond County Savings Bank, Roosevelt Savings Bank and Atlantic Bank in New York; Garden State Community Bank in New Jersey; Ohio Savings Bank in Ohio; and AmTrust Bank in Arizona and Florida.
In its reporting, it presents just one segment — the Banking Operations. This segment serves consumers and businesses by offering and servicing a variety of loan and deposit products and other financial services
In March 2023, New York Community through its bank subsidiary, Flagstar, acquired $38 billion of assets and assumed $36 billion of liabilities of Signature Bank from Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
New York Community closed its acquisition of Flagstar on Dec 1, 2022. Following this, it became the 24th largest regional bank (based on total assets) in the country.
As of Dec 31, 2023, New York Community had total assets of $116.3 billion, loans and leases held for investment of $84.6 billion, total deposits of $81.4 billion, and total stockholders’ equity of $10.82 billion.
