MercadoLibre operates online commerce platforms in Latin America. The company’s second-quarter 2017 bottom-line makes us increasingly cautious about its future profitability. In the quarter, margins were hit hard by increased investments in free shipping and loyalty programs, marketing, chargebacks, as well as higher maintenance, hosting and fraud prevention cost. Increased investments will continue to be a major headwind in the third quarter. Year to date, the company has outperformed the industry it belongs to.
