American Public ended fiscal 2015 with better-than-expected results for the fourth quarter of 2015. In addition, the company’s first-quarter 2016 earnings guidance was better than investors’ expectations. However, American Public is witnessing declining enrollment trends at APUS. A decrease in enrollment of students using military TA and FSA also led to weak revenues at APUS in the past quarters. Even Hondros College revenues, which had grown well in the past, have softened significantly in the third and fourth quarters. However, management’s initiatives are driving the quality mix of students and persistence rates, while reducing bad debt expenses.
