Remember Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2015? What a feast it was for Internet of Things (IoT) developers!

In the opening keynote speech, CEO Brian Krzanich summarized it well — “Computing is everywhere. It’s everywhere in our lives today, it’s in our bags, our clothes, our homes, our cars. In just about everything we do, computing is there with us”.

Krzanich also projected that the future of sports will change with implanted technology, providing a demonstration of how “sensors and Intel’s tiny Curie module can be imbedded on a BMX bike to provide real-time analytics”.

Intel Corp. (INTC - Free Report) is getting up, close and personal in the sportswear segment with the smart sports bra launched recently!

New York Fashion Week

Why am I suddenly talking about the New York Fashion Week? Wearable technology inevitably reminds us of the chunky watches that track our steps or let us take/make phone calls. But, not anymore!

You will be surprised to know how many experiments are being conducted in the world of fashion to make wearable technology truly ‘wearable’!

This week’s New York Fashion Week architectural sportswear label, Chromat, in partnership with Intel, launched a technology-enabled bra — Aeros Sports Bra. It adjusts to fit the wearer’s breasts and opens vents to facilitate aeration if temperature rises to uncomfortable levels.

The bra is powered by the Intel Curie Module that, according to Ayse IIdeniz, vice president of Intel’s new-devices group, designers can use to add intelligence to any kind of attire or fashion accessory such as rings, handbags and fitness trackers.

In an Intel blog post, IIdeniz wrote, “The Chromat Aeros Sports Bra leverages shape memory alloy to open vents when it senses heat and sweat in order to cool down the body,” She added that “the sports bra can respond to changes in perspiration, respiration and body temperature to open or close vents in order to cool (or warm) the wearer.”

Going Ahead

Unfortunately, the bra is not available for consumers as the Intel Curie module is awaiting the requisite FCC authorization. So for now, all we know is that there is a sports bra with “Intel Inside”.
